Many of us take security quite seriously – and this is something that requires no argument. Indeed, security is one of the biggest concerns that we have, especially when we are talking about the security of the people we love and the things we value the most. We have been so accustomed to the use of keyhole locks in our homes and they have proven to be quite reliable. However,  biometric access control devices have become more popular recently. This is due to the limitations that keyhole locks have. For example, losing your keys to your house can become quite a hassle. In fact, merely fumbling with a bunch of keys can already be quite frustrating. To keep us from having these kinds of trouble, biometric door locks have been introduced to the market.

A biometric door lock works just like your regular keyhole lock. The biggest difference is that biometric access control devices no longer require you to use keys to unlock the door to your house or to your room. With the help of sensors, you simply need to have your fingerprint, iris or voice scanned by the biometric box. If your biometric sample is accepted, you will be allowed entry. But once there is no match found, you can be sure there is no other way to have access to a door unless you literally tear it apart.

A keyless door lock typically requires a vocal recording or a two-dimensional or three-dimensional image – which practically means effective and efficient access control to most individuals. However, there are times when these  keyless access controls might fail us. And these are pretty much the factors we would need to consider if we are planning to use keyless door locks in our homes or offices.

False acceptance and false rejections must be minimal or close to zero as possible. You would not want to endanger the safety of the people and things that mean so much to you, would you? A biometric box can generally store a good number of information. This makes it important for you to include the information of all those you would permit to have access to your room or home to be stored in the database of a biometric door lock.  You will also need to check if the materials used for your door cab accommodate this kind of device. If not, your use of a key less door lock would prove to be useless.

Copper Rain Chains – a Lovely Alternative to Ugly Downspouts

Plastic spouting, although functional, is not exactly attractive but there is a much better looking alternative. Have you considered replacing it with decorative copper rain chains? Replacing ugly plastic downspouts with attractive rain chains is becoming more and more popular as people find out about them.

It is easy to fit a rain chain and they are durable enough to last for many years. The copper is usually coated with shellac to prevent oxidation and keep the copper shiny. There are a huge variety of designs available including watering cans, bells, tulips, lilies and other flowers, umbrellas and traditional chain links.

Chain links are the traditional design but nowadays links made from shaped cups are more popular. The bottom of the cups has a hole which allows the water to flow from cup to cup down the chain to a collecting point at the bottom. Large Log Homes

Log homes can range in size from 250 square feet to 5,000 square feet. The smaller log homes are typically referred to as cabins, or log cabins. Commonly cabins range up to 1,500 square feet, but some people still like to refer to their homes as a ‘cabin’ even when it is 3,000 square feet. Log home is the name most commonly given to the larger homes of 1,500 square feet and up. Some even dub their dwellings as luxury log homes or log mansions. No matter what name is chosen, they are all made from the renewable resource, wood.

Large log homes many times have a sprawling great room of several hundred square feet. Open loft are also often seen in floor plans. A great room with a master suite is also sought after. Master suites include the master bedroom, walk-in closet, and master bath. Some even have extra rooms included in the suite such as a sitting room, hot tub nook, or small office to one side.

Other hallmarks of these larger homes are walk in pantries, formal dining room areas, extra bath rooms, and several large bedrooms. When garages are attached to the large log home, many times a bonus room is included above the garage. This bonus room would be accessible from one of the second floor rooms or loft. Also an exterior staircase can be added to the home to provide a direct entrance to the bonus room. Many home owners finish the bonus room into a game room, office, or apartment. With a separate exit, using the area as an office or apartment is a wonderful use of space.
