The slippery and slimy black mold is also known as Strachybotrys atra. It looks greenish black in color and is highly allergic. It can cause death among toddlers and babies due to suffocation and respiratory bleeding. Black mold can also cause serious breathing problems like bronchitis and asthma.

Homes generally tend to have molds in different areas. They multiply vigorously in wet and moist regions of the house. When touched, black mold would feel slimy. It can invade the house like parasite if not removed at initial stages. Removing black mold can be catchy and tough. Firstly, you would need to check the root cause of the problem and the areas infected by the black mold.

Black mold removal can be mildly hazardous. The dry spores of black mold need to be removed with utmost care. If the dry black mold is grazed, the particles released in the air could cause harmful breathing disorder if inhaled. Hence, when removing black mold, it is advisable to wear protective face masks and eye glasses.

Another tip before removing black mold would be to keep the house free from excess moisture and humidity. Children and toddlers need to be kept away from the infectious region. While removing black mold, slightly wet the area using bleach, mold cleaner and sponge. The black mold can then be removed by slowly scraping it. This keeps the mold particles from floating into the whole area. Black mold disinfectants can be found in any hardware stores. The mold, sponge, used gloves and other wastes should be immediately discarded in a garbage bag and sealed with care.

It would be good to regularly check on the carpets, cardboard boxes, and old books for any traces of black mold and removed at the earliest. Bathrooms and kitchens should be checked for leaking areas and repaired. Dry and well ventilated homes have a lesser risk of black mold infestation. In extreme situations, professional help is recommended.
