Garden clocks are generally ornamental outdoor items that add a decorative flare to to your garden, patio, back yard, or any outside space of your home. They are made specifically for the outdoors, so they are able to handle most any weather conditions including snow, wind, rain, and sun damage.
Outdoor clocks are able to tell the time and some are even able to give the temperature or humidity levels of your garden’s micro climate. This is beneficial because if you live in a particular climate where certain plants are more particular in terms of what type of climate they need to grow in, you can base the productivity of your garden on the exact temperature of your yard rather than the temperature of the town you live in. However, if you are not an extreme gardener, having a clock with a temperature or humidity gauge is still a nice addition because they look nice in a garden as decor.
Due to the fact that outdoor clocks are mainly for decorative purposes there are many types of garden clocks to chose from. They can vary in size, style, shape, materials used, and price. There are large standing clocks that you can post up in your garden that might include a thermometer, berometer, and extreme decor bordering the clock for over two-hundred dollars. There are small clocks the size of indoor clocks that can hang on the outside of your home with no decorative style for under twenty dollars. There is basically any type of outdoor clock out there, so it just depends on your own personal needs.
Garden clocks are most commonly made of cast iron because it is a sturdy, weather resistant material. It is easy to find many different styles of clocks made out of iron because it has been used to make clocks for a long period of time. Other metals used in making these outdoor clocks are aluminum, brass, or copper.
There are also terracotta or resin-made clocks. There is not a large variety of terracotta clocks because it is not widely popular, and the material is bland to work with. Terracotta clocks are a great addition to compliment a specific type of garden or outdoor area. Resin based clocks are the newest type to integrate into the clock world and are growing quickly in popularity. The resin is wonderfully weather resistant, is able to be molded to appear like different metals, and is much less expensive than cast iron, brass, or aluminum.
