Lighting Style Options For Your Home

Bringing a new light fixture, such as a chandelier, into your home can dramatically change the way the space feels.  Combine this focal point with wall sconces and you can completely redesign the look of your interior.

There are many different styles of chandeliers and wall sconces available to suit any home.  Before you choose a chandelier light for a room, it is best to measure it.  Taking the width and the height together, such as 15 feet wide + 10 feet high, match the size of the chandelier in inches.  In this case a chandelier between 24 -30 inches would provide the best illumination without taking over the room.

The style of your home, whether it is an Arts & Crafts bungalow, or a contemporary design, will dictate the design and finish of the chandelier and complementing wall sconces you choose.  Many Arts & Crafts homes with their typically warm wood tones would benefit from an antique brass, oil-rubbed bronze, or even brushed nickel finish.  The finish should complement and contrast, not become the focal point or a perfect match.

To find your chandelier lighting and wall sconce lighting, you can shop on a budget at Lowes, Home Depot, and Lamps Plus.  These stores offer inexpensive but handsome fixtures from $28-$500 and up, and their return policies are usually forgiving if you change your mind.

If you have to have the best, you can start at Restoration Hardware, where they specialize in period specific pieces in the low hundreds to as much as $4000 or more. If it is not necessary to have the fixture in your hands before you buy it, there are many indoor lighting retailers online that offer thousands of selections and a full range of prices.

Wall sconce lighting is an important complement to any chandelier light.  Besides creating a visually stunning stage when combined with the chandelier, wall sconces create either warm, and/or bright light for the most traveled areas of the home.
